I have admitted repeatedly that I have OCD. I’ve never been diagnosed officially, but OCD is one thing that you know when you have it. Prior to the term “OCD”, I was often referred to as anal retentive and a perfectionist.

How do you know if you have OCD? Well, let’s see:

1) Do you alphabetize your kitchen cabinets? Or have a ’system’ for putting them in order? I also require my boxed foods to be facing a certain way.

2) Do you count things? Or like to do them in certain numbers? I don’t do things in certain numbers, but I do count things. Okay, I count everything. Including the lines on the road. But not when I’m driving. Usually.

3) Does everything you own have a ‘place’? Does it make your eye twitch when things aren’t in their place? My children often put things that are not books on our bookshelf. My eye twitches often.

4) Do you feel the need to organize other people’s things? Or things in public? I’ve been known to spend my wait time organizing my doctor’s magazine rack.

5) Do you require certain things be put away in a certain way? My jeans must be folded in one particular way. Ask my children how bad my eye twitches when they are folded incorrectly. And don’t ask about the towels!

These are all symptoms of OCD. There are more. Many, many more. If you can answer yes to these, you, my friend, have OCD as well. It’s okay, we are in good company. You recognize an OCD-er right away. I’ll write about some of my favorite OCD-ers later. I promise.
