Kitchen game plan
In my quest for a more organized and tidy space, I decided to start with my kitchen and work out in each direction. My kitchen is quite literally the center of my house. The master bath and bedroom are on one side and the living room, bathroom and the other bedroom are on the other side.
I have a to-scale model of what my house will eventually look like (when we add on) and a to-scale model of what I want done now while I am trying to make 900 square feet tidy and organized. I also have a list of what steps to take based on financial ability.
um, can you say OCD much?
My kitchen is the end-result of three attempts at small renovations to make the space more workable. It is a nightmare on a good day and a disaster on a bad day.
This time, I’m going to make it work and hold myself accountable to you.
I’m going to do pictures, but later. It needs rescuing from the holidays first.
In the mean time, my renovation game plan is as follows:
To work within our low budget, I’m going to re-finish existing cabinets until I can install new. I’m also going to create a kitchen command center (the OCD in me just loves that term). I’ll be painting the kitchen and trimming out the windows. I wish we could afford new windows, but I seriously doubt that will be in our budget.
If the budget allows, I will be (with help from my husband) installing faux-hardwood flooring also. My goal is to have faux-hardwood floor (or real hardwood floors if we stumble upon a pot of gold) throughout the house except for the bedrooms.
I might even try my hand at creating a butcher-block counter as well. It seems fairly easy, given the correct tools. I have the tools and most of the know-how. I’m just a tad bit uneasy about taking on such a big (in every sense of the word) project.
So, that is the game plan for the new kitchen. I’ll share my plans for the living room, bedrooms and bathrooms a little later.
