Mardi Gras is coming up quickly. Whether you are going to New Orleans to celebrate or just staying local (assuming New Orleans isn’t local for you), now is the time to grab your Fat Tuesday gear.

Quick and easy Valentine’s Day gifts

It’s February. That means Valentine’s Day is right around the corner. Yes, it truly is.

Guys (because honestly most women have already bought Valentine’s gifts for their sweethearts), here is a short list of some quick and easy V-Day gifts you can order for your Valentine.

1) Don’t just get some generic candy and a card. Be thoughtful and you will reap what you sow 10x over. I promise.

3) Are you a great love letter writer? Not many are. However, I’m sure you can find the lyrics to “your” song or the words to a poem that your Valentine loves. If none of these appeal to you (are you sure you’re in a relationship?), find a t-shirt, mug, bag or even a hat… but one that centers around something your sweetheart loves. Does she adore cats or dogs? Is she nutty about recycling? (Hey, some of us would love a nice canvas bag!) January: National Thank you card month

The holidays are over and (hopefully) all of the presents are put away.

And hopefully, you have written all your thank you cards. You have haven’t you?

And you have supervised your children’s thank you cards too, right?

Well, if you haven’t, don’t despair. January is national Thank you card month. Yes, there is a month for just about everything. But this one is important.

It’s important that children learn that the little things count.

So, if you have written your Thank You cards, congrats. If you haven’t, pick out your favorite and get writing!

February second is groundhog day. And we’ll all be watching to see if that furry little stinker is going to make us suffer through six more weeks of winter.

That sounds mean. Maybe because I’m snowed in right now and can’t imagine it staying cold that long.

I have admitted repeatedly that I have OCD. I’ve never been diagnosed officially, but OCD is one thing that you know when you have it. Prior to the term “OCD”, I was often referred to as anal retentive and a perfectionist.

How do you know if you have OCD? Well, let’s see:

1) Do you alphabetize your kitchen cabinets? Or have a ’system’ for putting them in order? I also require my boxed foods to be facing a certain way.

2) Do you count things? Or like to do them in certain numbers? I don’t do things in certain numbers, but I do count things. Okay, I count everything. Including the lines on the road. But not when I’m driving. Usually.

3) Does everything you own have a ‘place’? Does it make your eye twitch when things aren’t in their place? My children often put things that are not books on our bookshelf. My eye twitches often.

4) Do you feel the need to organize other people’s things? Or things in public? I’ve been known to spend my wait time organizing my doctor’s magazine rack.

5) Do you require certain things be put away in a certain way? My jeans must be folded in one particular way. Ask my children how bad my eye twitches when they are folded incorrectly. And don’t ask about the towels!

These are all symptoms of OCD. There are more. Many, many more. If you can answer yes to these, you, my friend, have OCD as well. It’s okay, we are in good company. You recognize an OCD-er right away. I’ll write about some of my favorite OCD-ers later. I promise.

I have a friend who is going through a bit of a trying time. I was looking for some motivational posters and sayings for her. I found a few good ones, but mixed in with the motivational posters were these hilarious demotivational posters.

What can you do with a binder?

Zazzle has binders. That was the announcement last fall that everyone went a little nuts over. Me, I thought, eh, what else can you give me.

Don’t get me wrong, I love binders. I love lists and the OCD in me insists those lists be kept neat. Therefore, I have lots and lots of binders. Yes, they are labeled too. On the front and the side. And color coded.

But what on earth could I use a custom designed binder for? Other than all of my lists?

Well, here are just a few things my fellow artists have designed for these binders:

2010, here I come!

It’s 2010 and I’m ready for it.

I have goals. And plans. And lists. (lots and lots of lists.)

Yes, I have OCD and I admitted that many, many years ago.

However, I took a long look back on 2009 over December. I thought about what I wanted to do and how I should tackle all of those things.

While I’m not anticipating I will take the world by storm, I do hope to venture into some areas I have yet to enter. I have lots of plans and lists to (hopefully) make them happen. I’m trying to work out a work schedule that will allow me to keep all my plates spinning. Last year I felt like a plate spinner who just kept getting thrown new plates and eventually all of them just crashed down around my feet.

This year, I’m going to start with more focus and not just determination.

So, I’m back to square one in one sense, but it’s also just the beginning!
