Dads are great for giving advice. Some of it can be very useful and appropriate. However, some advice dads give just makes you laugh.
For father’s day, in honor of dads and their great (and not so great) advice, we’ve created t-shirts and gifts with Dad’s life lessons on them. Here are a few of our favorites:
Dadism: Money doesn’t grow on trees.
I think every father has uttered these words at some point. I know my dad did and I know my husband has many, many times. As a kid, you just want to roll your eyes because everyone knows money doesn’t grow on trees and it isn’t even made out of paper. However, as a parent, when kids think your wallet is ever-full, it is also hard not to utter those exact same words.
Dadism: Because I said so, that’s why.
Growing up, I heard this reason way too much. I hated it so much, I swore I wouldn’t use it. However, as a parent, there are times when you just spit “Because I said so, that’s why” without thinking.
Dadism: Never eat yellow snow.
Whenever I asked my father his opinion about something that he didn’t really care about (say, what he thought about the current dilemma going on my favorite soap opera) he would always respond with this time-honored piece of advice: Never eat yellow snow. While it is great advice, it’s not really helpful. Especially when you are so concerned over what color shirt to wear to school that day.
Dadism: A little dirt never hurt anyone.
Our final tribute to dad’s life lessons is one that is most often muttered to a mother who is fussing over how dirty a child has gotten. Or when a piece of candy has fallen on the floor. Either way, it often shows the difference between men and women. Dad could care less if his child is dirty, even if said child is headed to church or to their grandparents house for Christmas dinner. Dirt is dirt and amazingly it washes off. And to the knowledge of most fathers, a little dirt has never hurt anyone.
We hope you have enjoyed our tribute to dad’s time honored lessons in life. Please keep an eye out for more dadisms.
All designs are also available on other products, including t-shirts, ties and cards.
