There is a lot of controversy surrounding Tea Parties, and I’m not going to go there… but I think there are some people going to the Tea Parties have reasonable concerns (high taxes, government spending, etc.) and are simply fed up with our government … often on both sides.
Plus, I found some really unique gear for these Tea Party activists.

]]>However, there is one aspect of the health care proposals that have me very upset — and I’m being nice and G-rated with that verbiage.
Apparently there are people who are opposed to the new government health care plan. It happens. We have a bi-partisan government with lots of different ideas. In the US, people have all different opinions — it’s part of what makes us so wonderful.
I can have a different opinion than my neighbor or co-worker or family member — and that’s okay. No one is going to come into my house and lock me up simply because I disagree with the current government.
However, as I said, there are people who disagree with the new government health care proposal, which should be perfectly okay. These people have the right to speak their opinion. But some Democrat leaders don’t think so. Those who are opposing the new healthcare reform proposals have been called “Un-American” by Nancy Pelosi and Steny Hoyer.
WTH?
Last time I checked, this was a free country and we were allowed to peacefully assemble and speak freely. Whether you agree with the opponents of government health care or not, this should anger you. People of all opinions should be allowed to speak their opinions without being called “Un-American.”
So, at the risk of being called “Un-American” and in support of those who oppose gobernment run health care, here’s some political swag that is against government health care. Even if you support government health care, don’t support Democratic leaders who are trying to undermine the freedom of your fellow Americans.

]]>Basically, you trade in your “clunker” and get up to $4500 toward a new car. Great huh? Well, it could be, but there are a lot of problems with the new program — the biggest problem includes the fact that the program ran out of the “cash” portion of the cash for clunkers within the first week or so.
Gee, people are strapped for cash and you’re going to offer them an incentive that could be 1/4 to 1/2 of what a new car is going to cost and you didn’t think there would be a massive run to car dealerships? The program was initially given $1 million dollars (which as I said ran out in about a week). Congress just gave cash for clunkers another $2 million. They think this will last until the end of September.
Of course there are tons of stipulations over what a clunker is. And to make things just a bit more confusing, the government has changed those stipulations in the middle of the program.
Oh and if you think there will now be a ton of used cars for sale pretty cheap, you’re wrong. Part of the deal is that the cars must be permanently disabled when they are traded in.
It gets better, some dealerships are making customers sign papers that they will either pay the incentive back OR return the car if the government runs out of money or the trade in isn’t eligible on the next round of government adjustments. So, you’re old car is now “permanently disabled” and you are stuck with a new car that you may or may not get your incentive toward. Nice one, huh?
A lot of people are opposed to the program. Some are opposed to cash for clunkers because of principles.

Their feelings are that the government is subsidizing the car makers/dealers… and in a way, they are. And people who can’t afford a new car are getting them anyway…. doesn’t that sound a little familiar too? (Hint, lots of people getting new houses they couldn’t afford. And that worked out soo well, right?)
Some people are opposed to the government disabling the cars… hey, there are a lot of NICE old cars out there.

What happened to “antique” cars or “vintage” cars… why does a car have to be a clunker just because it’s a little older or doesn’t get great gas mileage?
Oh and if you think that the cars people are buying with the cash for clunkers deals get better gas mileage, you may not be correct. You can get $3500 toward a vehicle if it gets 4 – 9 MPG. So, they can just trade off an old gas guzzling SUV and get a new gas guzzling SUV.
So… other than helping people buy new cars…which they probably shouldn’t be buying if they need that much incentive anyway… what did this program do? Other than go broke in a week, of course. Oh, that’s right, it helped car manufacturers dealerships sell some cars. But, don’t worry, the government isn’t subsidizing car makers and dealers.

]]>In 2008, Delaware made a little bit of history with Joe Biden being nominated as the Democratic Vice Presidential candidate and, consequently, becoming Vice President. Of course, the only people truly excited about this fact were people from Delaware.
However, then our new governor, Jack Markell, helped make Delaware’s spotlight shine a bit brighter earlier this year by signing a law that allows sports betting. You see, in 1992, sports gambling was banned by the federal government. Some states were grandfathered in, including Delaware thanks to a brief sports gambling stint 30 years ago.
Delaware’s sports betting law made some waves earlier this year. It seems a lot of people are against it, including the NFL. And now a pair of Republican US Senators. Senator Orrin Hatch of Utah and Senator Jon Kyl of Arizona have turned Delaware’s spotlight up just a tad more.
Being from Delaware, you’d probably assume I would have a pretty strong opinion one way or another on the issue. Ironically, I don’t. I have some pretty strong political opinion about an awful lot of subjects. This one… not so much.
I do understand where Gov. Jack Markell is coming from. In the 90’s Delaware approved casino gambling, which has brought in quite a bit of tourists and money. Then Maryland and Pennsylvania decided they wanted to offer the slot machine casinos as well. Which will probably work out fairly well for them. For Delaware it could be very bad news for a state that is already hurting financially. The sports betting will once again give Delaware a leg up on the competition.
Delaware doesn’t have any major league professional sports teams and the law doesn’t allow betting on Delaware minor league teams, as well as college and amateur teams. These provisions ease most of my concerns. The way I look at it, there are already office pools, friendly wagers and fantasy teams already going across the country. I really don’t understand the difference.
Oh, and, other than the traditional holiday scratch-off lottery tickets, I don’t gamble. I don’t make friendly wagers, I wouldn’t know how to play a fantasy team and I don’t participate in office pools about games (though I have bought into pregnancy pools before). I don’t see the point. I have played on slot machines before. They offer a momentary thrill that just simply isn’t worth the cash I seem to throw in them.

Many people are recycling now. (Not saying you have to, but it is the “in” thing to do…) You don’t have to have a fancy recycle system, but there are some really awesome ones out there. If you have an extra crate or trash can, you can use these recycle bin labels to help you set up a recycle system that works for you. That is the important part: make it easy for you, or else you won’t actually do it.
Another easy way you can become a little more environmentally friendly is by using re-usable water bottles. Don’t grab one of those plastic bottles from your closest gas station.

New plan: I pay my debt, you pay yours!
No Bailout! is our most popular (and one of my favorites) anti-bailout t-shirts and bumper stickers. It’s simple and straight-forward. We have to pay our own debts, why the heck can’t businesses pay theirs?
